I’ve been growing my herb garden indoors for about 3 years now, and the fresh smell and flavour not only compliments your meals it also adds a nice clean fresh scent to your kitchen.
Creating an indoor herb garden is a simple project that can be rewarding almost instantly. There are a few important things to remember when planting indoors.
- Drainage, make sure you choose pots that allow for proper drainage. Standing water is debilitating to your garden, and causes the roots to rot. Layering gravel in the bottom of your pot will also help with drainage.
- Soil, I recommend using potting soil mixed with sand, and a small amount of lime.
- Sunlight, make sure you place your garden near a window. Most herbs require a moderate amount of sunlight. South facing windows are ideal and provide the most light. In the summer, I like to place my garden outside for some extra sun.
My favourite herbs to grow indoors: Genovese Basil, Dill, Thyme, Mint, Rosemary and Coriander.
